Secondary Level
Before you begin:
Requirement: at least one computer per group. Divide students into groups (at least 5 groups or a group per country) List of search engine and web sites. Worksheet for students to complete as they access information.
Introduction
1. Brainstorm about what students know about English speaking countries.
2. What countries they have visited?
3. What types of information you want to learn or know about these countries?
Presentation
1. Explain the task to the students. Go to a English Speaking Website to find out information & pictures about these countries
2. Find the following types of information: names, location of country, continent, flag, population and something they found interesting
3. Put students into groups, distribute worksheets.
4. Students can choose country to research. One group per country.
5. Follow up activities: i.e. create a globe with English Speaking Countries identified.
Practice
1. Students go to http://members.tripod.com/~the_english_dept/EngWorld/englworld.htm
2. Complete worksheet and prepare material for presentation to class.
3. Present information to rest of class.
